What mysteries really need

A Hollywood screenwriter and novelist takes a look at what we think mysteries need - and what they really need.

He points out that we don’t really remember how Blomkvist identified the serial killer in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. We were just glad that Lisbeth Salander got there in time to save Mikael. The same goes for many other books, TV shows, and movies.

Good mysteries are not about clues and red herrings, he says, but about character.
