State by state
Kim Norman’s started something clever – a blog that lists, by state (and Canada, too) authors and illustrators who do school visits.

You can find it right here.

[Full disclosure: I love school visits. I'm always freaked out and nervous before, and energized afterward. Teens don't have much in the way of filters, so you get everything - their interest, their boredom, their excitement, their deeply personal stories, they shy revelations.]

Wow. I assume this is a fairly new venture, because the Canada listings are completely lacking. Per capita I'm pretty sure we have more children's and YA writers up here than the U.S., and most of them do school visits.

I just joined a group called YABS (Young Alberta Book Society). It's aim is to help organize school and library visits for authors, illustrators, poets and storytellers. There are 56 artists registered, all Albertan and willing to visit schools.

Cool idea, though. I hope Ms. Norman continues to expand her database.

It is brand new - brand spanking new - so people should add to the database.
