It's hard for me to feel sorry for these people

Every year somewhere in the vicinity of Portland they build The Street of Dreams. My dream would be a slightly bigger house with a few more restaurants within walking distance and the same five minute drive to Portland. I guess other people's dreams are more along the lines of 10,000 square feet, a one-hour commute, and as much excess as you can cram into one house.

Only last year's dream homes were built on fill dirt or something. The Oregonian had an article today about one woman's $2.9 million, 7,000 sq ft house that's now falling apart.

"Literature advertising the 2006 Street of Dreams described Phan's home -- complete with a golf simulator room, 14 televisions, a billiards room, a wine cellar and cigar humidor -- as "perfectly suited to a 'vacation every day' lifestyle.""

14 televisions? For just her and her husband? What do you want to bet they don't own more than a few books?
