Thoughts on the June Booksense picks

June 2007 Book Sense Picks [I just listed the novels]
THE BLOOD OF FLOWERS: A Novel, by Anita Amirrezvani
A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS, by Khaled Hosseini [We are employed by the same large company, and I almost emailed him when his first book out, a little thing called the Kite Runner, but I thought I would have world enough and time to make a connection – obviously not!]
THE RELIGION: A Novel, by Tim Willocks
LIFE'S A BEACH, by Claire Cook [With a title like that, it had to be pubbed in the summer]
FIVE SKIES: A Novel, by Ron Carlson
LANDSMAN: A Novel, by Peter Charles Melman
FALLING MAN: A Novel, by Don DeLillo [The reviews have been all over the map]
DIVISADERO, by Michael Ondaatje
SOON I WILL BE INVINCIBLE: A Novel, by Austin Grossman
THE GRAVEDIGGER'S DAUGHTER, by Joyce Carol Oates [I know someone who was once her author escort. She asked to stop in a park, where she went for a run, fully dressed up, and somehow didn’t break a sweat or get untidy. I don’t think she ran fast – but still]
BAD LUCK AND TROUBLE, by Lee Child [This guy is a class act all the way]
WHAT YOU HAVE LEFT: A Novel, by Will Allison
THE LAST CHINESE CHEF: A Novel, by Nicole Mones [Yeah! By a sister Portland author – and a very nice one, at that]
THREE BAGS FULL: A Sheep Detective Story, by Leonie Swann [Guess the ARCs packed with fake grass and three sheep-shaped chocolates did the trick!]
THE SHADOW CATCHER: A Novel, by Marianne Wiggins
AUSTENLAND: A Novel, by Shannon Hale [From an author better known for her YAs]
