So in addition to being a writer, I also review books for the Oregonian. I review mysteries, thrillers, literary fiction, and YA with some kind of Northwest connection. I get all kinds of books sent to me by publishers, some that fit and some that don't. Once I got a Canadian textbook for a communications class! One of the perks of doing this is I get to suggest books to the editor (Full disclosure: I'll post more about that later.) So I suggested this book and the review ran on Sunday. Interestingly, in the acknowledgements, the author says after he finished the book he hired some people enrolled in a writing MFA program to work with him on making it better.
The result is pretty good!
