Finding yourself between the pages

The Richmond Times Dispatch had an article about how not all YAs are about white characters. (Full disclosure: although they shamefully neglected to mention LJ’s own lisayee.

Be sure to click through the slide show that accompanies it. Interestingly enough, some of the people writing about non-white folks are white. Do you think that’s kosher?

Last year I met a blond-haired, blue-eyed woman who had written a screenplay about Native Americans, based on things she had learned through reading. It felt a little wrong. But then I have written from the point of view of a man, or someone born 100 years ago, so how is that any different?
