A contest for YA writers

This is kind of like a snake eating its tail, but if you are a YA writer without an agent, it could be a good deal for you.

An agent who specializes in YAs has written a book called Writing Great Books for Young Adults: Everything You Need to Know, from Crafting the Idea to Landing a Publishing Deal. And now she has a contest to promote that book. In a genius idea, “The Grand Prize Winner will have the opportunity to submit an entire manuscript to YA literary agent Regina Brooks and receive a free, 10-week writing course, courtesy of Gotham Writers' Workshop.” I mean, what better way to get your book noticed by the very people who will want to read it.

So if you are a would-be YA writer, all you need is “an enticing title along with the first 250 words from the opening of your original YA novel.”

[Full disclosure: I checked out the agency and can’t find any red flags - but I also can’t find any sales recorded for the past year at Publishers Marketplace.]
