Uh-oh, looks like Carrie Jones has a Doppelganger

We all know and love carriejones.

Today, I saw this in Shelf Awareness:

"Cutting Up Playgirl: A Memoir by Carrie Jones
First published in England, this book's original subtitle was "A Memoir of Sexual Disappointment" and due to its indelicate subject matter, the author, "a successful publishing executive," writes under the pseudonym Carrie Jones in order to protect her anonymity."

Just to be clear, I'm pretty sure this is NOT our Carrie.

I curse you, Starbucks!

Normally, we buy House Blend. Lots of it. Because coffee is pretty much my beverage of choice. After all, a study out this summer showed that drinking five cups of coffee a day could reverse memory problems seen in Alzheimer's disease. Okay, so the study subjects were mice. But I can use all the memory I can get. And my dad had Alzheimer's.

But the last time I was at the store I decided to get some Breakfast Blend. It wasn't until I opened it up that I saw the key words on the package. "Half-caffeinated." I didn't even know they made Breakfast Blend in that version.

What kind of crazy person wants half the caffeine? Especially in the morning, when you are trying to be awake. Either you want caffeine or you don't. It's like smoking a "light" cigarette. Or reduced calorie beer. You've got to make a choice and stick with it.

And my choice? Since coffee is so expensive, I'm drinking the coffee. Reluctantly.

Sixth local murder-suicide in a month - all related to domestic violence

In the Portland-metro area, there have been six murder-suicides in the past month. So many they're all starting to run together. The ex-boyfriend who shot his ex at her job at Great Clips and then killed himself. The divorcing husband who shot his wife at her lab job, shot a couple of her coworkers and then shot himself. The guy who had been convicted of domestic violence, but who the wife let move back home after he completed anger counseling. He shot her, her son, and himself. A couple more I can't even remember the details of.

And then yesterday, some poor four-year-old goes over to the neighbors and tells him that her mom and her mom's ex-husband aren't moving.

I wish people could just get past it. Why do men get so angry? Why is it so easy to get a gun?

Wowza! This sure brightened my day

I've been having a terrible day. Terrible. I tried eating a sleeve of Ritz crackers, taking a nap, mumbling to myself, and going for a long walk.

Nothing helped.

And then I saw this newsletter in my email. And it wasn't from my mom or a friend. It was from someone I didn't even know! I'm just scrolling down, ready to hit the delete key. At first I thought I imagined it.

Okay, it's kind of scary that I've been writing books long enough that something is on a "dusty shelf," but hey, this made my day. I've had eight books published, and four more are done and in the pipeline Learning to Fly is still one of my favorites.
