I've been fretting ever since a dentist informed me coolly that the two previous dentists who said kid didn't need braces were wrong, wrong, wrong. That kid's teeth were going to get worn down in some unattractive backwoods pattern, plus food would get stuck in giant gaps. She kept pointing in kid's mouth and I nodded, clueless. All I knew was that I had just quit my job and my dental coverage and braces cost $3-$5K.
But orthodontist said braces would only be needed to "correct a minor cosmetic imperfection." Kid and I share a slightly twisted tooth that only a dentist would notice.
I'd much rather put the money in a college fund. If kid wants braces, kid can get Invisalign as an adult.
