And now this. Kathryn Harrison has written a book called While They Slept, about Billy Gilley an 18 year old Medford boy who beat his abusive parents to death while they slept, then came back upstairs, covered in blood, and told his 16 year old sister that they were now "free." The legal system might have been more forgiving if he hadn't also murdered his 11 year old sister, Becky, when she wandered into the scene.
And of course, it all happened in Medford, a few years after I graduated. Although I swear, growing up I did not known one single person who tied their kid to a tractor tire and beat them with a rubber hose.
I'm not sure I'll read it. It sounds like it deals with some of the same events Harrison covers in The Kiss, the riveting and soul-killing account of how her father came back into her life when she was 18 and began an incestuous affair with her.
