A staffer over at Publishers Weekly noticed that the guy on the cover of a new book looked an awful like Daniel Handler (AKA Lemony Snicket). It couldn’t be – could it?
Ah, but it was.
His photo was used on the cover of How the Solider Repairs the Gramophone. A few years back he had a photographer friend take some photos of him. Since he didn’t have much cash, he let her sell the images as stock photos. As PW reports, “The German publisher of Stanisic's book just happened to pick one of THOSE photos for their edition of this book (with no idea as to the identity of the man in the picture), and Grove Press (who didn't recognize Daniel either until a reader asked why he was on the cover of the book) liked it enough to want to use it too.”
