Can you use video games to hook readers? Scholastic certainly hopes so. As the NY Times says, “The premise of Scholastic’s series “The 39 Clues,” for example, is that online players search for some of the clues themselves, encountering background stories about new characters as well as text and pictures about everything from the Titanic to the Iditarod sled-dog race, material that supplements the novels and inevitably entails some reading.”
