Teen Read Week - I'm part of the fun

From October 15 to 21, libraries, schools, and bookstores across America will celebrate Teen Read Week, now in its ninth year. Teen Read Week is sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). This year's theme encourages teens to use the resources in their library to lead active lives.

The main theme for the Teen Read Week initiative is "Read For The Fun Of It." A sub-theme that changes each year serves as a basis for developing programs in schools, public libraries, and bookstores. This year's sub-theme is "Get Active @ Your Library," and it promotes nonfiction as a tool for getting young adults to read.

Recommended reading, listening, and viewing for teens can be found on YALSA's website. [Full disclosure: after many clicks, you will discover that Shock Point is a "Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers" nominee!

And to celebrate Teen Read Week, I will be at the Lake Oswego library on Oct. 21 from 1-2 for a completely free presentation. Come critique my PowerPoint! Find out what Robert Cormier and I have in common! Hear about my next book - Fire, Kiss, Electric Chair (unless Marketing changes the title)! And find out about my work in progress about a kidnapped blind girl - Shadows Walking Backward - that may even be finished by then!!
