Borders names Original Voices noms

The nominees for the 2008 Borders Original Voices Awards, which recognize "fresh, compelling and ambitious works from the new and emerging talents," have been selected by the bookseller's employees in its corporate office and at stores. A committee of corporate staff will select the winners, which each receive $5,000, and have their books featured in Borders's superstores.

The nominees:

Dear American Airlines by Jonathan Miles (heard of it)
The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway (heard of it)
The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti (have it, haven't read it yet, main character is young enough to be in a YA)
The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry (hard not to miss the buzz about this originally self pubbed work)
The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes (not heard of)
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (not heard of)

Young Adult/Independent Reader
Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go by Dale Basye (hey! I think he lives in Portland)
I Am Apache by Tanya Landman (not heard of)
The Patron Saint of Butterflies by Cecilia Galante (heard of)
Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams (isn't this the start of a series?)
Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff (I think this is the companion book to his dad's memoir)
Wake by Lisa McMann (she has emailed me! so we are basically BFF!)
