What was equally fascinating for me was the name of the author: Rebecca Skloot. When I first working at Kaiser in the 1990s, I met a manager named Betsy Skloot. And her husband, Floyd Skloot, was starting to make a name for himself and his writing. It was so exciting for me to know someone, even tangentially, who was actually published.
Betsy and Floyd are long divorced, and I haven't seen her in years. I run into Floyd every few years. He has written about his experiences with chronic fatigue syndrome, which a good friend also has.
