Want to a write a memoir?

Even just writing about your life for yourself can be enlightening. Abigail Thomas, who wrote the wonderful A Three Dog Life (about her life with her brain damaged husband), has a book out now called Thinking About Memoir .

Here are some ideas from it. Write two pages of:
Something you can’t deny.
What got left behind.
Something you wrote or did that you no longer understand.
Apologizing for something you didn’t do.
Physical characteristic you are proud to have inherited or passed on.
What you had to have.
Humiliating exposure.
A time when you felt compassion unexpectedly.
What you have too much of.
When you knew you were in trouble.
