Do you think it’s just inevitable?

Recently I read one book to the end and gave up on four more that were just disappointing me. Even the book I read to the end did not hold together. For one thing, the solution to the mystery involved a person who never actually made an appearance in the book.

I’ve heard other writers say that the more they work on their writing, the less they can read for pleasure. For me, it’s a terrible loss. That’s why I became a writer in the first place, because I loved to read more than anything.

Do you think that also happens to directors? Musicians? That there’s less and less they savor?
