For years, my mom's house was like the land that time forgot. She had dial-up so slow you could start the process, put on the water for coffee, and by the time the water boiled it still wouldn't have loaded. And there was the time last summer when I needed to open and print out a document my editor had sent me. The word-processing program on my mom's computer? Something called WordPad 98. (Needless to say, I had to go to Kinkos).
Finally her computer bit the dust.
My brother has now upgraded her to high-speed. And wi-fi. And now she has a Facebook page and owns a Roku.
