Success is a lot of work

Super librarian Robin Beerbower, Dana Haynes, and me at the annual Public Library Association conference

Under the penname Conrad Haynes, Dana wrote three mysteries that were published 20 years ago. Long enough ago that I remember reading about him and his books and feeling jealous. I was writing and wanted to get published, too, but I didn't even have an agent. Time passed. He didn't publish any more books. He parted ways with his agent.

Then he wrote Crashers. It took him a long time to get that book published - but wow! Now it's coming out in June with a first printing of 100,000 copies!

Dana never gave up.
