4 covers for one book

When Buried Diamonds came out as an ARC (advanced readers copy, sent to booksellers and review sources), it looked like the image on the bottom. Yuck! It looked like something I could draw. Plus it seemed pretty soft for a cover of a book that has a lot of memories of Dachau plus a character who at one point is crawling through someone's blood.

For once in my life I put up a real stink about the cover. Luckily, they listened. (Full disclosure: authors seldom have cover approval. If they are lucky, they have "cover consultation." Which is what I had). The publishers then came up with the top image. Which I thought was great. But for some reason different images were used for the large print (second from top) and paperback (second from bottom) versions. They were all published by different companies, which must have something to do with it. The French version hasn't come out yet, or I would paste it in here.
