Karin Slaughter, Meg Gardiner, Ted Dekkar, Cara Black, Jo Nesbo, and Oregon's own Dana Haynes spoke at last week's Public Library Association's annual meeting held right here in Portland. I remember when Karin's first book was about to come out and Laura Lippman was raving about it. And Cara Black and I once spent time at the world's most horrible smoke-infested hotels I've ever been at: Sams Town in Las Vegas. It was so smoky it even turned off smokers. And I've known Dana for a few years. He was so excited when he told me about signing copies of his upcoming book for thousands of librarians.
