How many plots are there?

I've said before that there are two plots, or possibly one. Here's David Morrell's take in Lessons from a Lifetime of Writing:
"There's really only one plot, and it goes like this: a person or group or entity (animal or alien, whatever) wants something. Perhaps its to survive a blizzard, get married, dominate the world, or save a child trapped in a fire. Another person or group or entity (nature for example), throws up every barrier imaginable to stop that goal from being achieved."
