This little sweetheart has been hanging around our house for several weeks. I would see her skittering down the driveway when I pulled in and not think much of it, since a lot of our neighbors let their cats run loose. It was my husband - who isn't much of a cat person and is terribly allergic - who noticed that the poor thing was starving and bought her a tin of cat food.
She has perked up considerably. She's made a home for herself on our porch and would come in if we let her. She is affectionate and has a interrogative murmur that almost sounds like she is asking you a question. She looks all tabby on the front, and mixed with a calico on the back. She has a big fluffy tail. To touch her is to wince - underneath that fur is nothing but bones.
Poor thing was obviously someone's pet at one time - she's not feral at all. I've checked a couple of lost cat listings, but no dice. We can't keep her because of my husband's allergies. It's not safe to keep feeding her outside because there are coyotes in the neighborhood. We left a message with Animal Aid (a no-kill cat shelter) and hopefully they can take her in.
But she really deserves to have a home again. If you know of someone who might be interested, email me at aprilhenrymysteries (at) yahoo (dot) com.
