I wrote five or six books for adults before I wrote one for teens. And when I heard that schools would pay you to visit and talk to students, I was surprised. Actually, I was shocked. And when I learned many authors - especially those who write for children in elementary grades - make as much or more of their writing income from school visits as they do from royalties and advances, I was amazed.
Want to learn more about doing school visits? Here are some resources that might help: - School Visit Experts - a site started by lady who writes a monthly column for SCWBI about school visits. - Anastasia Suen’s class on school visits. I took it with the author of Kira Kira! I found the class invaluable.
