Odd Question - what dog is about the same size as a three-year-old

This is a weird question, but what kind of dog is about the same size as a three-year-old child? I need a short-haired breed. One that, if someone touched it briefly through a sheet (and didn't see it), they might think it was a kid.

Got any ideas? I was not raised with dogs.
