"Will my tongue grow back?"
Said kid was bouldering at a rock-climbing gym as a thank-you for being a playground monitor at her elementary school. Before the event she brought home a release form. She had to bring it home twice because I hadn't initialled all the right places. It covers every possible eventuality. Here's how it begins: "I acknowledge that climbing is highly dangerous activity and that the activities involved in the use of any of our services or facilities at this location and all other locations, both climbing and non-climbing related, entail significant risks, both known and unknown, which could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to property or to third parties."
I got a phone call from her yesterday afternoon. She said she had bitten the end of her tongue off. I had horrid visions, which mostly turned out not to be true. It was just the very tip that was gone, so that unless her tongue does grow back, she will have a very slightly squared-off tongue.
