I’m a Lucy Stoner

I got married almost 25 years ago. I kept my name, which has proved useful for anyone from my past who wants to get hold of me. I thought a lot of women would be doing the same thing, but it seems like most changed their name to their husband’s.

In the Writer’s Almanac I recently ran across reference to the Lucy Stone League, an organization that fought to allow women to keep and use legally their maiden name after marriage. My great-grandmother was a suffragette, fighting for the vote.
