How to create compelling characters

Author David Corbett, my fr-acquaintance, has a piece in Writer’s Digest about how to create compelling characters. It’s really thorough and well worth a read.

First, he says your characters need: “four crucial elements: a driving need, desire, ambition or goal; a secret; a contradiction; and vulnerability. Let’s take a closer look at each one.”

But the good info in the article doesn’t stop there! He also gives you ideas about how to mine your past for interesting characters, and he gives you ideas on again, how to look at your emotional triggers to help you write pivotal scenes.

Click right here to get all his great advice for yourself.
