Writers and Day Jobs

We all gotta eat, and many authors have or have had day jobs to help with that. Here's a look at some author's day jobs, including:

- Jeanette Winterson, in addition to driving an ice cream truck, was a make-up artist at a funeral parlor.

- Kurt Vonnegut was the manager of a Saab dealership in Cape Cod, after he’d already published his first novel, Player Piano. The dealership was supposedly Saab’s first in America.

I have had one of the day job mentions (it paid well, actually). Can you guess which one?

No - but I had a series character, Suzy, who did it for four books. And I have toured a funeral home.
I could guess what you didn't do: pose nude and commit petty theft? lol
Were you a ticket agent?
